About

Impersonal Finances is run by a 30something hoping to achieve financial independence by age 50something. He’s probably about a fourth of the way there if he’s being honest with himself. He lives in the San Francisco Bay Area, which requires some creative ways to keep spending in check.

Impersonal Finances is very much not a financial advisor, nor should any of the contents of this site be considered as real financial advice. He rarely, if ever, speaks in third person, with the exception of this About page. His first post (June 24, 2020) doesn’t do a very good job of explaining his reason for being on the internet, but you can find it here. Future posts come in random spurts of inspiration either weekly or monthly or never at all, so best to subscribe and let them find your inbox when they arrive.

A large majority of traffic to this site comes from the general public’s collective disdain for Edward Jones, which Impersonal Finances shares, via search engines. If that includes you, welcome to the site! Please, have a look around.

If you’re just getting started with your money, he recommends you check out the six steps he took when getting his Impersonal Finances in order. Whether your focus is on getting out of debt, making a major purchase or just beginning to build your investment portfolio, his best advice is to start tracking your net worth to help yourself gain full control over the assets that you already own.

For those simply interested in following along with his misadventures in financial matters, he provides first-hand accounts of his tomfoolery in the markets, chasing meme stonks, flirting with crypto, flipping NFTs, and going full degenerate on fantasy football leagues, among other endeavors. Also, sometimes he writes about books he reads.
